Interesting ;D

First marriage of Elizabeth GRIEVE , the second wife of Andrew which gave her the surname WHITE at the marriage.

WHITE Thomas Orrell (Born SCOTLAND)
GRIEVE Elizabeth
Year 1881
Reg Number: 3781

And his death-

WHITE Thomas Orrell
Father Adam
Mother Euphemia HUME
Age 31
Death Place PORTD
Year 1884
Reg Number 5710

So Andrew's second wife's (Elizabeth's) deceased husband was a brother to Andrew's first wife. ??? ::)

Good work Sue,
I had an idea that Adam White and Euphemia Hume would be the parents of Elizabeth Grieve's 1st husband.
Had planned to look for this today as I was too tired last night.

Well Done

I was beginning to wonder if Andrew snr had been transported

FYI The Colony of Victoria was not a penal colony :-X.

I have duplicated the shipping information and added an explanation....

Index to Assisted Immigrants arriving Colony of Victoria at Public Records Office of Victoria [A subscription only website has copied these records to their website and I have found errors with the names of the ships simply because not all pages have been transcribed and imaged :-X  Always pays to search the original source of any records]  The OITHONA left Plymouth on 21 Oct 1854.
http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=24

Your family of interest were not assisted immigrants and paid their own fares however their names appear on the nominal and disposal list which you have viewed on an online subscription website.

Arrival of the OITHONA at Portland.

See column headings on the website.
Oithona    -    851    21 Oct    30 Jan    101    Lloyd Herbert    108    133    41    62    344    1    -    3    3    7

If Catherine wasn't baptised prior to the family emigrating, perhaps she was baptised at the Scots Presbyterian Church, Tyers Street, Portland which was built c1850.

It certainly looks like them on the the 1851 census in Dundee too. No wonder I couldn't find them. From the birth places of their 3 children on the 1851 census, it seems they were should have still been in Perth in 1841, though there is a big gap between the births of Jean/Jane and Ann.

SMITH, George    Jul 1860 8 Dec 1861  1/5  Son of Andrew & Ann, Portland
SMITH John       Son of Andrew & Ann, Portland. Died in Dundee, Scotland.
SMITH Margaret       Daughter of Andrew & Ann, Portland. Died in Dundee, Scotland.
SMITH William        Son of Andrew & Ann, Portland. Died in Dundee, Scotland.

Perhaps a search on Scotlands People or familysearch will find their baptisms.

Although Andrew SMITH is a commonly occurring name, this snippet of a person of the same name at Portland  in Mar 1855 claiming wages owed to him, may be of interest to you.

Just a comment....why do chatters bother with online trees that are invariably full of errors, not referenced with sources, copied and pasted over and over and often border on the realms of genealogical fantasy.  We have excellent resources in Australia...let's use them.  Many of us have our own resources so just ask for help. :D    Try familysearch for pre 1855 events in Scotland.
