A Boston Birth
« on: Wednesday 23 September 15 02:42 BST (UK) »
Hi All.
I have a ggrandfather - his name -  William Morgan SOUTHAN.
His death Cert. in 1904 in Sydney shows he was born in 1851 in Boston USA.
His Father - William.    The informant was his son.

The Boston birthplace is evident on his childrens B/C's but not on his marriage in NZ in1876 which has limited information.

I have been unable to find his travelling to NZ and was not living in Aust. till 1885 for the birth of his last 7 children.

I would appreciate any help.  Was he born in Boston and was his Father William - Goodness knows.

I failed to state that I had a posting on the Australian Board.  Everyone has been most helpful.

We just need some American assistance if possible.

There are Massachusetts birth records on www.familysearch.org, but I don't see any likely matches for him.

I had no luck there either.   We will keep delving.

I didn't find him either.  Maybe it wasn't Boston, Massachusetts.  There are other Bostons, notably Virginia.

Someone else was looking for William Morgan Southan a few years ago-

Found this thread also but haven't looked through it all-

Hello and thankyou.

I had forgotten those ancestry message boards.  At the time I did make contact with the folk but nothing new came out of them.
Tomorrow I will go through my notes and read up again although I am sure at the time William the Dad was no closer.
Thanks for reminder,
Annette

Thankyou for reminding me of those message boards.

I have managed to locate the g grandson of William Morgan and he said his Mother always said there was an American connection.  She also told him she would have liked to have called him William.
It seems it is Boston and a William we need to find.

Back to work,

Broaden your search to areas near Boston.  I usually say that I'm from Boston but really I'm not.  It's just that it's easier to name the nearest large place whose name is familiar to foreigners than to name a small town they've never heard of and then have to explain where it is.
