Thomas MYERS married Rebecca NICHOLSON 1826
« on: Thursday 24 September 15 11:34 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for any help to clarify whether this union is the one I am searching for.

Familysearch has the bare bones of a marriage between these two individuals at Tong, York on May 15th (or 16th) 1826.

Are there Parish Records or Banns which might shed more light on the people and places concerned?

For clarity, 'my' Thomas MYERS was born in Horsforth, Leeds in 1797. 'my' Rebecca was born in Harringworth, Northamptonshire in abt 1802. My Mr and Mrs Myers settled in Gretton Northamptonshire in the late 1820s.

Many thanks - Alan

Hi

Married by Licence,  both  "of this parish" (residing there not necessarily born there).  Both are widowed and Thomas is a gamekeeper.

No probs.  I see they have a son Thomas Curtis Myers.  Have you followed up this one

Thomas Myers
Rebecca Curtis
15 April 1828
Barrowden, Rutland

(Barrowden is about 6 miles from Gretton)

Purchasing the daughters (Rebecca)  birth certificate would confirm mother's maiden name

Many thanks

That is the right couple. I've got them 'pegged' until Thomas' death in the 1870s. I was looking for Rebecca's surname (the marriage in York did seem a bit far away)

btw: which archive has the Barrowden marriage reference?

Cheers Alan

The Northamptonshire Baptisms Index shows no baptism for a Rebecca Curtis in the county near to 1802. (One 1780, the other 1810 with a birth date in same year.) Maybe she was bpt in Rutland ... Harringworth and Barrowden are no more than 3 miles apart, separated by the River Welland, which is also the county boundary.
