Alma Forkell - who was she and whatever happened to her?
« on: Friday 25 September 15 12:06 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am trying to find out some information about Alma M Forkell (or Fourgell), born Oct 1883, lived in Rochester NY. She was married to Harvey Walters in 1899 and is in the 1900 and 1910 censuses as well as the 1905 NY State Census. Maiden name source is the social security death record of a son, Harold (1915-1993). Other children were Noal (b 1903), Katherine (b 1904), Eleanor (b 1908), Raymond (b1909) and Richard (b 1912).
I can not find any trace of her parents or when she died. Any help most appreciated.

On Family Search marriage of her daughter Elanor in 1926, but name misspelt as Farkel but other details match:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZ9H-CTM

the marriage of son Noal in June 1922, her name now spelt as Elma but other details match

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZ9Q-8VR

So she was stil alive in 1926......

Hope it helps in some way

Maybe I missed something, but I don't see anything that indicates that.  The certificates just ask for their parents' names, not whether or not they're alive.

Thanks for that. Now on thie marriage record it says she was born in France, though the census records say US.

Looking for her death.....

Perhaps she was away at the time or perhaps they divorced

And next census along, 1925, Walters seems to be married to a Matilda, with a step-daughter, Gladys Archer, to boot.

Possible marriage on Family Search to Mathilda???

On the image it indicates that it is his 2nd marriage and that it was not know whether former wife alive or dead but were divorced 5 Sep 1923

Food for thought - On the 1910 Census Rochester Ward 16, Monroe, New York it shows a John Forkell aged 42 years born NY - Father Canada Mother NY.

There is a John Forkell on the 1870 census Oswegatchie, Saint Lawrence, New York with a father born in Canada and a mother in NY - possible parents of Alma.

Dominick Forkell  32 Born Canada
Philomen Forkell  30 Born NY
Dominick Forkell  13
Jane Forkell  10
Philomen Forkell  4
John Forkell  2
