He was an Iron ore miner when he married but he may not have been when he was in Ireland, or do you have reason to think he was.
Without knowing where in Ireland he came from it will be very difficult to find him.
Did he have any sibling?
Following another member of the family might lead to a place name.
When people move they often go to an area others they knew moved to before them, might be worth looking for other Irish in the area to pick up a recurring place name.

Not much help but it provides a little context:

From your other post where you have given the marriage details of John Rowe junior his father John Roe senior was an agricultural labourer. The son probably went to Cleator for work. The mid 19th century was a time of the development of the need for the iron ore worked around Cleator Moor and other areas in The area.

Have you found other siblings to John in the area or even that perhaps the parents joined him there?

Already suggested on the duplicate thread-

Sorry I didn't read the other thread properly.

My other thought would be that if the marriage certificate is from the GRO or the local register office in Cumberland it might be worth seeing the actual entry in the Catholic Church as sometimes that has more information.

Ann Jane is a spinster at marriage, I think you mean her mother remarried a Murray. This is born out by the fact a Thomas Murray brother is living with Ann Jane in 1881.

I recall only one relative, by name, an ancestor of John Rowe Sr.

His father, I believe: "James Rowe/Roe"

A much earlier ancestor was John Rowe in the 1500-1600's, who was killed by the Scots in a war.
