I wondered if "Ryscem" was a botched attempt at Wrexham - Gwersyllt is in just a couple of miles north of the town centre.

Joseph PRICE/Dorothy JONES, 8 Aug 1848, Brymbo, Denbighshire, Wales

I can only find 1 Baptism on FreeREG;
JOHN Price, 21 Dec 1835, Cefn-Mawr, Denbighshire
Parents Joseph Price/Elisa Jarvies

Thank you Trish for your invaluable help (as always)!!!  :)

I've been looking for Rysum and Ryscem on Google Maps and can't find either of them.
Then I searched for Cefn-Mawr... and was surprised to find it!
To the North-East of this place is another village/town named Rhosymedre
I have no idea if Rhosymedre is pronounced similar to Ryscem in any case is a longer word to be wrongly transcribed by the enumerator in 1881.

Trish, did you actually see the original image of the 1881 census?

On staffordshirebmd.org.uk:

Marriage between Sarah Lawton and Joseph Price, MAR qtr. 1864 (6b 193)
was a "Civil Marriage at Wolstanton, Registers at Stoke-On-Trent"
Reference: WRO/07/021

Would this be at a local library in Stoke-On-Trent?

I think it is the Register Office (Registrars).
You can obtain a copy of the certificate by clicking the reference on staffordshirebmd search results.
This brings up an ordering summary page (if online is available you start that process here), if not you click the reference again and this should bring up a application form for the certificate.
You have to print the form and post (with an SAE) for the cost (£10 each).
I have never order online so don't know how that works.

Joseph PRICE's deaths 1901-1911:
SEP 1902 (78) Stoke T.
DEC 1908 (75) Stoke T.
MAR 1909 (75) Wolstanton

Sarah PRICE's deaths 1901-1911:
JUN 1901 (72) Newcastle L.
JUN 1905 (72) Wolstanton
MAR 1907 (66) Wolstanton
DEC 1911 (75) Wolstanton

On Find a Will:
1907 - Sarah PRICE of 18 Minton-street, Wolstanton, Staffordshire (wife of Israel Price) died 2 January of 1907... etc.

It coincides with Death MAR qtr. 1907 Sarah PRICE (66) Wolstanton 6b 57.  :)

Looks like death in Jun qtr 1901 is the wife of John Price from Newcastle under Lyme died 28 May 1901 (from Probate calendar)

Thank you welshjo!
If we could discard just one more, we would have the correct date by elimination! :)
(I've done this before and it worked -the topic was called "The mysterious William Douthwaite")

Could you discount the last Sarah Price as she dies after the 1911 census and you say you cannot find them so they must have died before?

There is a Sarah Price in the 1911 census at High Street, Tunstall, head, widow, 74, fruit dealer, born Burslem.  Crucially, I believe, in 1891, the same Sarah Price appears to be at High Street, Tunstall, greengrocer at the same time as Sarah and Joseph were at the Mile House Inn, Wolstanton.  I have found no other Sarah Price of the right age in 1911, so I infer that the Dec 1911 death must relate to her and not Joseph's wife.  Obtaining the 1907 record might help confirm this if the informant and/or place fit.  If the informant was Joseph it could eliminate another possible record for him.

Sorry, I meant 1905.  Nothing in Probate Calendar or Find A Grave.  No burial on FreeREG, but if a memorial survives it might reveal whether she was wife or widow of Joseph, and he might be buried with her either way.

Best wishes
