b. 27th April 1563 Dacre, does anyone have any  information on the above , especially relating to his knighthood and why it was awarded,

It was customary in that era for men to be Knighted for service to their king

This from the Law Times suggests that this was a courtesy title , given to him as a beneficed clergyman :

There is also an explanation here that the word Dominus , a non-graduate clerk, was translated as Sir , but this does not meanthat he was a knight

Thanks for the replies guys, i think you might be right CB53 that was quite an interesting link and one ive not come across before. Sir Roberts son was also rector of Bowness .

Sir Robert is the brother of my 12 times grandfather (Christopher Troutbeck) and further down Roberts stem to a Samuel Troutbeck who died in India in 1785 and was subject of an unclaimed will.

The amount being a sum of £400,000 in 1846 ( cant work out how many millions that be must be today) but money aside its an interesting story
