Charles Thomas Collins
« on: Friday 02 October 15 07:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Just wondered, before I send off for the B/C, if anyone can confirm that the parents of Charles Thomas Collins, whose birth was registered Q3 1873 in Wycombe,Bucks, were Arthur Collins (born 1846 in Aston Clinton,Bucks) & his wife,Hannah (nee Gomm) born 1842. As Charles is living with his paternal grandparents in 1881 & 1891 it is difficult to tie him in with his parents.

Regards

Coreen

I think his place of birth was Wendover, Bucks.  So I'll check my BucksFHS PR's cd's for a baptism, in either Wendover or Aston Clinton.

Hopefully, he was baptised. ;)

Take me a while to get back to you, I'm at the library.

Sorry, no baptism for C.T.Collins in Wendover, Halton, nor Aston Clinton.

But, I found that his mother Hannah Collins(nee.Gomm)(aged46), remarried as a widow, 9 Feb 1888 @ Aston Clinton, to Thomas Gurney(aged46).
Witnesses were John Reeve & Mary Ann Reeve.

John Reeve(aged 25) married Mary Ann Gomm(aged 25), 12 dec 1871 @ St Leonards, Aston Clinton.  Witnesses were Arthur Collins & Elizabeth Ann Gurney.

It seems that Hannah Gomm & Mary Ann Gomm were sisters, father was Thomas Gomm.

Arthur Collins & Hannah Gomm's marriage Banns were read & St Mary's @ Wendover, and as you know, they were married @ St Michaels, Halton.  Anthony Collins being his father.(Anthony Collins was buried @ Wendover, 13 Dec 1886, aged 76).

So, to sum up, I would suggest that Arthur Collins died between 1871 & 1888.

Have you found C.T.Collins in the 1881 census at all.?  Search for his mother, Hannah Collins and C.T.Collins should be with her.

Oh, by the way, Anthony Collins sister, Sarah Collins(b1811), married into my family line. ;D

Good luck, and happy hunting.

Steve. :)

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for that info - it has really helped. I did find Charles in both the 1881 & 1891 census but in 1881 he was living with his paternal grandparents,Anthony & Sophia Collins & in 1891 with his, by now, widowed grandmother,Sophia.  I'm not sure which of their children Charles belonged to, almost definitely Arthur (who died Q1 1881).

Sophia Collins was a Geary before her marriage & I am a direct descendant of her brother Henry so I think that must make us some sort of distant cousin,at least by marriage if not by blood?!!
