I wondered that Rosie, as a catholic marriage was not possible in England then.

After March 25th 1754, Catholics almost invariably went through two ceremonies to fulfil the demands of both faith and law. (Marriage Laws for Genealogists. Rebecca Probert).

From 25th March 1754 until the introduction of Civil Registration from 1st July 1837, a legally valid marriage had to be in a C of E church.

Hi

According to Genuki St Peter, Stalybridge was not founded until 1839, the only Catholic church in that area I have found that was open c1828 was Dukinfield, St Mary.

RM/13/187

This ref no seems to be of a similar format to Registry Office marriages in the Preston area, which are too late in this case.

Perhaps it belongs to another marriage they had found.

Ann Craven married a James Blanchflower.   I'll have to email my friend and aske where she got this reference number from.

James Blanchflower and Ann Craven are my ggg grandparents, and I am having the same issues in locating a marriage record.  I believe James may have a brother, Patrick Blanchflower and tried to research through that line but no luck. Patrick was born in Ireland @1801 and married a woman named Winnifred, likely in Ireland as the baptism of their first born, Michael, was in Ireland.

I too ran across that cert number and I believe that came from someone's tree on Ancestry.com and not real reliable.

James died in Ashton Under Lyne in 1858 and his wife 10 years earlier.

Solamore, your friend in the USA is looking for the same records for James Blanchflower and Ann Craven as I am. I wonder if your friend and I share DNA.
