Rachel Speir, Edinburgh
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 14:45 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate information on Elizabeth Adamson's parents Elizabeth was born in Edinburgh in 1663, she married George Gilchrist.

Her parents, I believe, were Rachel Speir & John Adamson, I believe both were born in Edinburgh. I have located a Rachel Speir baptised 10.09.1622 in Edinburgh to parents Alexander& Bessie. If she were born in 1622, this would make her 41 when Elizabeth was born.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you

Hi,

Just a point to remember if it concerns you that Rachel was 41 when Elizabeth was born. Not all children were baptised within a few weeks of birth as they are now. I know that , at least in Scotland , they could be a few years old before this took place.

If this was the case it would make Rachel under 40 when she gave birth.

Thank you for your replies.
I will look into Alexander & Bessie Speir as the possible parents of the Rachel in my tree, will hopefully locate some siblings for her.
Thank you again for your help
