Place Name
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 16:11 BST (UK) »
Hi
I found this document while making use of the free access offered this weekend and I was wondering if anyone can tell me the name of the town on this application. I can see that it is county Vilna but the town escapes me and I cannot find anything similar on maps of the area.  Any ideas ???

it is the first clue to the Russian brickwall that I have. Thanks.

If this is in the wrong place please put it where it belongs ;D

I'm afraid your link only takes me to the Ancestry website to open an account.
It may just be me though!!

Stoklishok is a Yiddish name for Stakliškės, now in Lithuania.

Thanks for that Stan, my ancient computer doesn't have a photo editing programme on it(and it's running Linux) and the original was too large to post as an image :-\

That clearly says "Stoclesock in the County of Velna" - only problem is that Google comes up with zilch for either name ??? ???

I had the same result, it's a problem when foreign place names are written phoenetically, but it seems that the consensus has it as Stoklishok/Stasliskis and I have found it on the Jewishgen site.  Now the next question is do they have records and what was the Russian/Yiddish name of my ancestor who were Jewish immigrants to England ::) ???
