Ashford - old building
« on: Monday 05 October 15 15:43 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know what this building was? We passed it at the weekend, and were curious!

It's about 2 miles from Ashford on the north side of the Annamoe Road - I suppose it was something to do with the Glanmore Castle Estate, but what?

Yes you are correct, they were part of the Glanmore Estate, and were built under the direction of the landlord Francis Synge, in the second half of the 1800s. There were two identical sets of farm buildings, the one you passed at the weekend at Glanmore, and another at Tiglin farm on the Glanmore estate. They consisted of stables, byres, barns, animal houses, and accommodation for farm workers. There was also a forge. The circular windows were a recurring theme on the estate.

thank you, bandc.

They must have been very handsome buildings when they were new.
