Contact details for the churches of Cashel
« on: Wednesday 07 October 15 20:25 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find out whom the father of my illegitimate grandfather was.

My grandfather was Joseph Francis Fitzpatrick, born in Cashel in July 1927 to Frances Fitzpatrick

Cashel County Home, the workhouse in which he was born, did not have any details, only the duration of stay for Frances

Since both Frances and Joseph were Catholic, I am hoping there is a baptism available, in addition to his birth certificate, which did not have any details of the father's identity, if Joseph was baptized, it might have the name of the father, since illegitimate children would have been cared for by the parish and the fathers name had to be known

Is there a way I can contact the churches directly?

There is an email online, but it did not help, as it has now been a month and a half since I contacted them and I have heard nothing

I appreciate any help, my family knew little of Joseph

thanks

Why not just check the registers which are online, free?

http://cashel-emly.ie/our-diocese/parishes/a-d/cashel-rosegreen/  has phone numbers

Area Code: 062

From outside Ireland change that to 0035362  plus phone number

thank you

Yes the registers don't go post 1925

I will contact them and let you know what I find

There could be a clue in Joseph's first name.

The name Joseph does not appear anywhere in the Fitzpatrick family, though his second name is the male variation of Frances, the name of his mother

thanks

Hi

Right I contacted the church and there is a baptism, but I wasn't able to be sent a copy of the original and I don't think it said anything about a father.

Well, did you at least ask for the details in the baptism entry?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello,

I was given the details, but it didn't mention a father.
