bap Ann YATE 1633 possibly Stanford in the Vale
« on: Friday 09 October 15 10:52 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the bap/birthplace and parents of Ann Yate who was bap 17 July 1633 in Berkshire, according to online transcripts which sadly don't give the parish.  If she's MY Ann I think she might have been bap Stanford in the Vale (Faringdon hundred), or an adjacent parish.  Could some kind soul do a lookup for me please?  If no Ann Yate on that date, are there any girls of that name around the same period?

many thanks
Jane :-)

Hi Jane,

I have a copy of the Stanford-in-the-Vale transcripts and eventually found the following;
19-10-1634 Ann YEAT d/o Richard & Joane

going backwards I then found the these bapts;

27-1-1632 William Yate s/o    "            "
31-7-1631 Mary       "    d/o   "            "
13-12-1629 Margaret "    "     "            "

These details are taken from the Oxford FHS CD - OXF-FAR01

Thanks Alan, I'd spotted the 1634 Ann on the BT.  A July 1633 bap would be on the preceding piece of vellum, which is missing.  The years 1629 to 1633 are completely missing, BT-wise, so as you have three baps from these years that suggests the cd index is taken from the PRs and the Ann Yate from July 1633 wasn't bap in Stanford.

The original source for this bap seems to be familysearch.  No parents given.  Thousands of records on the reel and at first glance the majority of them are just BRK.  I wonder if the reel is an extract of all BRK events in people's family files.

Whoever she turns out to be, I think I've ruled out the 1633 Ann as mine.

I'm trying to find parents for the one who was married at Stanford in the Vale in 1660.  It might be the 1634 one - age would "fit" with husband - but 26 does seem a bit long in the tooth for a woman's first marriage and the typed transcript doesn't say widow.

The CD index doesn't give any later Ann Yate/Yeat/Yates/Yeats/Yeates baps does it?  Stanford BT coverage is patchy during this period.  However there are plenty of Yate burials at Stanford on the BBI so it does seem pretty likely this was her "home" parish and she wasn't just passing through (groom Steven Barr was of Grove and I believe he may have been born 1631).

best wishes
Jane :-)

Hi Jane,

I haven't found any Anne yates/Yeates etc being baptised in Stanford for later years.

I looked also in the Wantage records but again no Ann Yeates etc is listed other than Annis Yeate in 1594 which rules her out I think.
I did find Steven Barr's bapt... 28-12-1631 s/o Thomas & Jane. Grove was part of Wantage at the time.

Thanks Alan

I suspected as much.

I've just ordered OXF-FAR01, it contains a few other parishes that are of interest to me which makes it easier to justify the expenditure!
