I have just been going through all my research and correspondence for Gertrude Ellen and have come across a compliment slip from the Taunton Registration District, which was a reply I had from them several years ago when I requested a Birth Certificate for Gertrude.  Their reply :-

I do not hold any record here which agrees with the details in your letter.  The closest "match" I can suggest is the birth of an Ellen Jane Wyatt born illegitimately in 1874 near Cothelstone. IF you would like a copy of this certificate, please return your original letter and cheque to me indicating this and I will be pleased to issue it by return.

Well would you believe it?  I had that here all the time and I never requested the birth certificate as I did not think it tied up with Gertrude.  I have now ordered Ellen's Birth Certificate.
