The Bonnar Brothers
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 04:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me find any info on William and Charles Bonnar.

Their Paetns were Patrick Bonnar and Ann Slevin (names vary). William was born in 1855 and Charles in 1864, in Donegal. The family stayed round the area of Manorcunningham and stray to Stranorlar sometimes.

I'm trying to look for marriages and death for the two. Ive seen that theres a marriage in 1875 Stranorlar of a William Bonnar but gives no name for his wife but there after that in 76 and 78 there are children William and Patrick born to a William B and Catherine Doherty, was wondering if that might be them maybe.

Hope theres something on them, not to sure if the they went to Scotland where some of the family went to like his cousins etc or maybe even New Zealand where his sister went

Ive got a picture of a man that people on here think to be Charles. the man is wearing no wedding ring so I'm trying to figure out who it really is

Regards

Thanks, Gary

Hello

Stranorlar Civil Parish
William Bonnar = Mary McLaughlin 31st September 1874

William was a shoe maker from Convoy, Mary was a Servant from Magheracoran (both over 21)

Fathers John Bonnar (shoe maker) Daniel McLaughlin (farmer)

--------------------------------------------

Don't think this is who your looking for, checked for Irish marriages for William and Charles, don't see anything appropriate, did see charles birth registration but you probably have that anyway.

if you looked on this site I gave you it says

William O'Donnell son of Charles O'Donnell and Bridget Doherty, RYE, married Ellen Bonnar, Dau of Patrick Bonnar and Anna Slevin, PLUCK, 11.12.1875 parish of Leck

but lots of other Bonnar mention, you can spell Bonnar  - Bonar or Bonner

Yes the family are Roman Catholic :)

The William and agnes bonnar I dont think are them as the age from the 1901 census is 10 years to young which would be nearer Charles age and then in 1911 ints 10 years older so it doesn't seem likely. the 1911 with William and Catherine I think could be him based on they are in stranorlar. Yes ive noticed the name varies a lot so we never know what one to go with but ive always just stuck with bonnar. We have the info on William and Ellen but if you find stuff more on them or anything really please do email, would help too.

The picture we have of William or Charles was dated by people on here as the 1890s so most likely Charles as theyd expect William to look older but I'm not sure. it was taken in Londonderry
