Slaters Directory 1894
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 06:27 BST (UK) »
Hi. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of this directory. I am after the areas around Moyne and Templetuohy.
Looking for a Joseph Kiely in particular. I think he could have been a harness maker.

Hi Katharine.
FindMyPast Ireland seems to have it in their collection but if you want to buy a copy here is a link:
http://www.eneclann.ie/acatalog/IET0084_-_Slater_s_Royal_National_Directory_of_Ire.html
Although it is not cheap at 42.93 Euros.

Mary Ellen Kiely in 1901 with children-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Moyne/Cooleeny/1713843

same household in 1911 with husband Joseph present- he's an agricultural labourer so why do you think he'd be a harness maker listed in a directory in 1894? Do you have birth certificates for all the children to check occupation listed? Given the 1911 occupation it's possible he was away from home on the night of 31 Mar.1901 and simply missed being enumerated elsewhere.

If you were not in the house when the census people called you were not put on the census.

I got my paperwork out last night to look at, and mistakenly put Joseph Kiely in the query as the harness maker, BUT on his marriage he is an agricultural labourer, and his father is listed as THOMAS KIELY, HARNESS MAKER.

Any one have any ideas? I wonder if the Patrick Kiely found could be related somehow and maybe Thomas had died by then, as I can't see him on the census.
