SAMPSON John - Baptism in Aberystruth
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 06:34 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the baptism of John SAMPSON born about 1831/33, in the village of Beaufort, Parish of Aberystruth, there is a possible entry for him on the 1841 census living in Somerset with his family, looking at the Image of this census (HO107 Piece 968 book 8 Folio 40 page 30) I'm not convinced this Surname is Sampson, the family did move to Somerset and he lived there  all his life

I can't find  him on the 1851 census, he is a lodger on the 1861 and I have traced him on every census until his death in 1904.

Are there any parish or non conformist records on line I can search for Aberystruth, I would like to find his baptism because this will give me his parents name and help me decide whether the 1841 census is him.

Many thanks

The parish records for Aberystruth are on Find My Past, but I can't see any Sampson baptisms. However in the 1841 census you give is also a son Robert born about 1827 and this looks like a good possiblity for him in 1871 -also born in Beaufort, Monmouthshire  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V5B2-PNH

Hi youwho,

Sorry I cant help with that query but have found these items in Somerset.

Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset

BAPTISM;
27 August 1876, Emmanuel Church, Weston,  HENRY JOHN Sampson and WILLIAM Sampson, Parents JOHN/ELIZA
Fathers Occp Mason
So late Baptism for Henry John, its likely that William died (possible reg Bath 1878 age 2)
As they name another Son William in 1875 it is a significant name to either john or Eliza.

Other Baptisms same Church;
10 Nov 1850 RHODA and CLARA Sampson, Mother ANN Sampson, Spinster

RHODA Married William COOMBES 13 Aug 1874, Christchurch Church,, Weston.
Clara is a Witness

There is also a Burial of BENJAMIN Sampson age 6 days 04 Jul 1843, St John, Weston

Just a bit of lateral thinking as thes people may be related to John.

Do you have a Childs Birth Cert of John/Eliza to establish her maiden name?

Then John/Elizas M/C to establish his Fathers name//occp?

Willl look around to trace Ann/Rhoda/Clara to establish where Ann was born.

Trish :)

With regard to Robert Sampson;
1851 he is born on Census Beaufort, Breconshire, Wales (in Monmouthshire)
1861 born c 1826 - Belafast, Monmouthshire (under Lampson) living with Rachael in Glamorganshire
1871 c 1825 Beaufort, Monmouthshire
F/s has hem marrying Rachel LEWIS 1857, Llandilofawr, Carmarthenshire
Unfortunately no extra info.

1851 he is possibly in Monmouthshire born c 1826 Beaufort, Breconshire, Wales

I am terrible at searching Census with refs no's

Can you type up the 1841 Census referred to in Somerset for me please.

Hi Kay and Trish

Thanks for the information, I had  checked on find my past but I couldn’t see him there either so I wondered if there   records anywhere  else I could look,  It’s the Surname spelling of Sampson I’m not sure about  on the 1841 census,  it look like SABNSON (which doesn’t sound right) although it’s been transcribed as Sampson, if there was a baptismal record in Wales for him I would know for definite  his parents’ names and it would help to determine whether it’s the right family on  the 1841 census.

John Sampson Married Eliza nee Sealy in 3rd ¼  1864 Bristol 6a 116
Henry J(ohn) b 1871 and William b 1875 were the sons of John & Eliza thanks for letting me know the name of the Church where they were baptised.

The line I’m tracing is William b 1875 he married Mary Ann Williams in 3rd ¼ 1893, by 1901 they had 2 children Reggy  1895  and  Elsie (my Aunt) 1897 William’s father John is living with them.

Mary Ann died 1906 William re married in 1907.

Re Rhoda & Clara  Sampson John had a sister Ann b 1826 it is possible these where her children,  I believe Ann would have also been born in Wales as she is older than John, thanks for that information.

I will have to look into the other information you kindly have given me
Regards

youwho

P.S your latest messages have just come in I will give you details of the 1841 census this afternoon, just off to lunch

I think this is the family in 1841 at   Weston super mare - Transcribed on Anc as Salveson!
