missing marriage of James Lawrie & Janet Neilson
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 19:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I tried scotlandpeople and ancestry with lots of different variants of names.

James Lawrie (often spelled Laurie) and Janet Neilson (often spelled Nelson) should have married around 1820s in East Lothian and Mid Lothian.

Janet was born in 1806 in Athelstaneford and her parents were James Neilson and Anne Waldie if helps.

James - I have no idea who was his father and prob born in North Berwick.

Their eldest Charles was born in 1828.

Can you help please?

Hi grubheam

You know you are searching pre the start of official registration in Scotland from 1855. Only about a third of events were recorded pre 1855, for all sorts of reasons.

Did either of them live/die in Scotland past 1855?

Monica  :)

His address was in Edinburgh, something street that I cannae read.

GR2 This looks like the family in the 1861 census
1861 Census: Fountain Bridge, St Cuthbert's, Newington, Midlothian, Scotland
Janet   Lawrie   Head   Widow   54   1807   Formerly Laundress   Drem, Haddingtonshire (East Lothian)
John   Lawrie   Son   Unmarried   Male   21   1840   Groom   Haddingtonshire (East Lothian)
Robert   Lawrie   Son   Unmarried   Male   15   1846   Baker Apprentice   St Cuthbert's, Midlothian
But I cannae find the son James in the 1861 census.
