Wow! Yes I know about pre 1855, thank you.

Janet, a widow of James Lawrie, a blacksmith, died in 1867 on Potterow, Edinburgh and son Charles presented at her death.

I couldn't find father James' death. I also couldn't find the birth of the rest of children - Mary Ann, Margaret, John and James - tried Haddington births. Very fishy.

Charles was born in Haddington but it didn't show what his father James do. Charles married to Janet Gifford in 1857 on Earl Grey Street, Edinburgh, showing his father James, smith, deceased and Janet nee Neilson - witness was Charles' brother James Neilson Lawrie.

Charles' sister Mary Ann of 15 Brown Street, married to Christopher Bryant, a printer of Richmond Place, in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh in 1853, showing eldest daughter of late James Lawrie, blacksmith, Haddington.

I hope you can help more please, amazing detectives!
Thank you for you time
