His brother John joined the service according to his pension record application he served 9 May 1888-17 April 1892 and again 27 November 1914-9 September 1918 at which time he was living at 91 Gorton Road Coventry.
Going back to his earlier service when discharged 1892 he stated Father George at 17 York Street Nottingham (1891 census he has a wife Mary J age 38) same address. Brothers George and Aleck and sister Harriet all older than he. After Harriet is Liverpool I believe it applies to all siblings.
So Herbert was Herbert George going by George or he had another brother named George.

This my mates family tree not mine.

His mother was doing the  tree some years ago and gave up.My mate gave me a box of paper work she gave him.
His  mother was thinking George was married to an Ann Maria Holden in 1862 and she died sometime around 1870 the problem is there are too many Harris's.She thinks he married a Mary Jane ? around 1874-1875 so the  children are  from the  first marriage.George died 1904 in a Nottingham Workhouse.Mary Jane was born C1852 Aslockton Nottingham according to the census's a lot younger than George too young to be the mother however I do not know when she died some time after 1911.

It looks like she had George and Herbert as the same.
