Hampshire - Ward, William
« on: Sunday 11 October 15 20:38 BST (UK) »
Hello again!

I am looking for information on Captain William Ward.  William was born about 1680, likely in Newport, IoW, and died about 1760.  William was made Captain under William Evans' Regiment of Foot and gained fame in the Battle of Malplaquet in 1709.  He resigned after that battle when he wasn't promoted and became a Magistrate for Hampshire until his death at 80 years old.

William had two sons, James ( <1690 - 1770) and John (1690-1770).

My primary question is what sources are best when looking for information on historical Magistrates of Hampshire?

Any help is greatly appreciated as always!

Best regards,

Matt.

Thanks!

I had already found that resource and performed a thorough search via Google Books but have been unable to find any pertinent information.   I think that perhaps the date this was published (1878) is just too long past his death.

Thanks again

Matt.
