Banchory ternan
« on: Monday 12 October 15 13:55 BST (UK) »
In the 1861 census records for Lightwood, Banchory Ternan I have an ancestor John Reid, tailor, and his wife, a shopkeeper, living in 3 rooms with windows.  I expect he is still tailoring but if she is a shopkeeper, what would she be selling, and where would she be able to acquire these items.  Any help regarding this would be much appreciated.

There were Robbies living at that address at that time also. Lightwood is about 1 mile north of the Hill of Banchory. I wonder if they had a shop in Banchory.

Lightwood is just a huge area in Banchory Ternan with several properties dotted around.  In 1834 Lightwood school was built and my Reids were living quite close to the school.  School house is still there today.
