The Gore Family and offshoots
« on: Tuesday 13 October 15 16:11 BST (UK) »
My wife's family can be traced in Ireland back through the Gore ancestry to Sir Paul Gore 1567-1629 (and beyond but not relevant).  My side of the family can be traced to Sarah Gore 1844 - 1916, born in Ireland and daughter of Sir Henry Gore 1803-1883, died Ireland.  Despite trying to come at it from several different directions, I can find no trace of Henry Gore in Ireland other than those dates, nor any sign of his (presumed) connection with the larger Gore tree.

Any suggestions?

Not sure that this is the correct family as date of birth for Sarah is 1834 not 1844 according to headstone

Link to marriage record of Sarah GORE 1864

Link to Headstone of Isaac, Sarah & son Arthur Henry
States Sarah was born Oct 13 1834

This couple had at least seven children

1 Jan 21 1866 Isaac Leslie ASHE b. Castleblaney Co. Monaghan d. Jul 25 1924 London
          m. Ethel Gertrude CHEALES England

2 Nov 05 1868 Arthur Henry Gore ASHE* b. Warrenpoint Co. Down d. Jul 04 1892 Dublin

3 Nov 21 1870 Mary Kathleen Jane ASHE* b. Letterkenny Co. Donegal d. 1916?
          m. Herbert Atkinson

           * Arthur & Mary are in England in 1891 with their uncle Arthur
He married Ellen A Bushell Sep 20 1860 notice stated only son of Henry GORE of Blessington
He was the Archdeacon of Macclesfield and a witness on the marriage of Sarah
On the 1911 census Arthur states he was born in Kilkenny
In a Belfast Newsletter article on Feb 23 1858 he is described as
the son of the late Alderman Henry GORE JP of Kilkenny

4 Nov 23 1872 Robert William D'Escourt ASHE b. Donegal d. Jun 17 1911 India
          m. Mary Lilian PATTERSON Apr 6 1898 India

5 Mar 03 1874 Sarah Ethel Barbara ASHE b. Derry d. 1956 Yorkshire

6 Aug 10 1875 Edward Norman ASHE b. Londonderry d. 1875

7 May 08 1878 Lilian Evelyn Frances ASHE b. Rathdown Dublin d. ?
          m. Ernst PACKENHAM Nov 14 1901 Bombay India

I think this is Sarah's sister Mary's marriage in 1857

Noticing that:
the minister at Mary's marriage was named ALCOCK
Sarah named her son Arthur Henry Gore ASHE
Sarah's daughter Mary had a daughter she named Evelyn Alcock ATKINSON in 1906
Most of her children did not have a son named Henry but did use Arthur
Some family trees online refer to Sarah and a link to Kilkenny

I wonder was her father ARTHUR HENRY GORE who married Mary ALCOCK in St. Mary's CoI in Kilkenny on Jul 11 1822 was Sarah's parents??

Mary ALCOCK was the daughter of Nathaniel ALCOCK Esq. MD & Alderman of Kilkenny; twice Mayor of the city 1820 & 1828 link to headstone

Also noting Henry GORE was name of the Mayor of Kilkenny in 1830
He died in Blessington Co Wicklow on Jan 19 1843

Notice in "The Londonderry Sentinel" of 4 September 1868; Deaths. August 29, at the residence of her son-in-law, Isaac Ashe, Esq., M.D., Warrenpoint, Mary, widow of the late Henry Gore, Esq., J.P., Blessington, County Wicklow.

All of this is supposition however if two of Sarah's children were living with their uncle Arthur, who describes himself as born in Kilkenny in 1911 and was described as the son of Alderman Henry GORE of Kilkenny I think it is a line I would investigate further

Penndennis
Hoping that the original 2008/2012 topic that Tara kindly put a link to
and this information will help tie up loose ends for you

Some of the remarks that Tara and Hallmark have made seem to stem from
this topic not having a link to older info and/or reference to known information to begin with

Some times searching for already known information can be frustrating
However at others it can uncover information that has been added over the years and is new

Tara
Thank you for posting the link to the older original topic which seems to confirm the tenuous links that I found yesterday, especially as Sarah is listed with her sisters in 1901 - LINK to 1901 Census

Deborah's baptism is recorded at St. Mary's CoI in Kilkenny as Dec 14 1824
with Father shown as Arthur Henry and Mother Mary unknown

This is the same Church that Arthur Henry GORE m Mary ALCOCK in 1822
He most likely dropped the Arthur over the years

There is also a transcription for the baptism of an Alme GORE
baptism is recorded at St. Mary's CoI in Kilkenny as Mar 10 1827
Father Henry and Mother Mary - this may be Annie mistranscribed and could be checked

There is a Sep 14 1799 baptism in the same Church for an Arthur GORE
Father Arthur and Mother Anne (maiden name not given)

These older records are transcribed and a check on the original or by contacting
The Rothe House Trust in Kilkenny - they did the transcriptions

These are a few links that may be of interest and / or help

Hi
I am in Australia trying to find parents of William Gore 1765-1845 and family connections to Gore's. Came to Australia in 1805 as provost marshal. His wife Ann Mckinlay. Extensive research and no results. Mentions Raghly? Ireland. Mentions Ardthelmon. Mentions Royalty
Any help would be fantastic for I am stuck.
Thankyou
