royal army services corps

Does anyone know if members of the Royal Army Service corps worked with the Royal Flying Corps duing the First World War?

My Grandfather was a clerk with the RFC stationed in France, so I believe, but I cannot find his name anywhere ( I know there is a problem with RFC records!) but I have found someone with his name in the medal records with the RASC.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Fran

Hi

Unfortunately this is all I have at the moment as my Mother died last year and it seems that anything she had about her father's time in the RFC has either disappeared or mixed up with papers that my sister holds.
I know that he had very poor eyesight and a 'short' arm which is why he was a clerk rather than a combatant.
His name was John Charles Sommerville, born 1898 in the Strand Workhouse (used as a "lying in" Hospital apparently!) He was brought up in Children's Homes even though I believe his parents were living.
I remember seeing his medals when I was a small child, and that he had a few French words and songs (!) which he learnt during his time in France, but that is all.
Thanks
Fran

Hello!
Thankyou for that, but I do actually have this for my Granddad! Very good of you to send me it though! Where do you have this info from?
Yes, the dob is 1898 (mar q). The institution was the Central London Sick Asylum Board Hospital, Edgware Road.
He was abandoned, but I have also his birth cert with his parents names but can find no trace of them after this date.
Think his Father (also John Charles) was from Ireland, but I do know the origins of his Mother (Alice Emily Ginn).

Anyway, thanks again
Best Wishes
Fran
(have tried to post this once already so hopefully it will not repeat itself!)
