Is there a map for the Papakura Cemetery?
« on: Sunday 18 October 15 03:43 BST (UK) »
I have just found out that my Gt Grandparents are buried at the Papakura Cemetery and I've found the abbreviated positions online.  Is there a map that I could identify where these places are?
I don't live very far from Papakura and I'm very keen to visit them.

Fairly easy cemetery to walk, probably an hour max, to check every grave !

Have not seen a map, but all mine were on the Settlers hill ...

Mackiwi and a few others should be about.  :)

Thanks a lot Mk2.  I guess I should start from the oldest looking headstones.  Gt Grandfather's headstone is made of Granite from Labrador that looks like beautiful royal blue pearls and was made by Mr W Parkinson of Auckland in 1901. There is a photo on the FindaGrave site, but no amount of looking at it tells me what part of the cemetery it is.  I will happily check it out tomorrow. Cheers.

Hi,

My map is of the old part of the Papakura cemetery which shows the names of the deceased.  I got mine from Papakura council years ago.

Cheers

Hi KHP is Amos Eyes on your map?  Does it show which location he is in?
Cheers!

Hi again,

Can't see him on the list I have, which covers Settlers Hill.  In saying that, when it was photocopied only the page of the book that could fit on the photocopier I was given.  Guess I was very lucky at the time, that the person serving me was a genealogist, so gave me the hand drawn plots.

Settlers Hill is the Presbyterian part.  Then there is the Methodist, Anglican and Catholic section.  Then the lawn section.

I would suggest ringing the Council .... they could tell you what section and who is at each end of the row, which makes searching a lot easier.  They are very helpful, in fact, a few years ago, I needed to hunt for five names, that weren't in the Presbyterian section, and rather than spend time going from grave to grave, I phoned the Council, and was emailed a map of the cemetery and they had written on it, where the deceased was and what section and even highlighted the row.

Cheers

Thanks so much for all of your help.  Most likely he is in the Anglican section as he came to NZ in early 1964 due to the Church of England Emigration Society.
