Hi,

Seeking help finding parentage of 3xgreat grandparents, being
John Allison Born 1801 Alston
and his wife
Elizabeth (possibly Anderson according to Ancestry.com) born Middleton in Teesdale in 1804.

Have confirmed details of their children Hannah and William as attached 1841 census, and their emigration to Australia, however would dearly love to find out their parents, and even grandparents, if at all possible please.

We have an earlier different link to the Allison family per
Phillis Allison, BIRTH 22 SEP 1793 • Middleton In Teesdale, Durham, England DEATH 11 MAR 1891 • Alston, Cumberland
and her husband
John Teasdale BIRTH 16 JUL 1795 • Alston, Cumberland, England DEATH JUL 1869 • Cumberland

Its just a hunch but its likely these two branches may be connected somehow.

Thanks
Mixo

Hi

Have found a couple of records that are quite interesting although there was no baptism in Alston, but there is one in GARRIGILL which is about a mile or so away.

John ALLISON bapt. 6 June 1801 St Johns Garrigill. Parents: FENWICK ALLISON and ISABELLA SLACK

He was baptized again a month later 12 July 1801, as was his sister JANE, firstly 5 December 1802 and again 7 August 1803

MARRIAGE:

ALSTON ~ 14 Feb 1801

Fenick Allison of Middleton bachelor and Isabella Slack of Alston
Witnesses: William Allison and John Slack

If you check familysearch.org there are quite a few 'John Allisons' born in that timeframe but geographically this one is the closest match.

Hi dear Claire,

Thanks so much for your time and expertise - fantastic info and help for me this way, as my research capabilities here in Australia (on a budget) are quite limited. Young Hannah Allison shown in the 1841 census, was living at High Cross Gill when she married my Great Great Grandfather John Richardson at Garrigill in 1849, when John was residing at Garrigill too. Her mother Elizabeth and brother William lived at Hole House Farm on the edge of Garrigill in 1851, so I think you have pinpointed the earlier generation and locality absolutely spot on.

If you have a special interest in this Allison branch, and their movements in Australia, I hope you accept this personal invite to

where your latest info will be added shortly.

Warm regards with many thanks,

Hi Mixo,

Thank you for the invitation to view your family tree. I have to say I've no ancestors with your tree , just a passion for genealogy ~ either my own tree or helping others.

Here's a few links to things you may have or not for your tree:

Fenwick ALLINSON of Harwood buried 24 Apr 1839, Middleton in Teesdale aged 70 years

marriage of John Allison and BETTY Anderson on 13 August 1825 Middleton in Teesdale

BAPTISMS of William and Hannah Allison

William ALLINSON ~ 26 April 1828 ~ Note that there was a daughter (possible twin) Isabella baptized the same day.

Hi

Going back to Elizabeth/Betty Anderson, I think this maybe her baptism in Middleton in Teesdale

BETTY ANDERSON born 24 Oct 1803, bapt. 11 Nov 1803. Father: Thomas of Forest a miner, Thomas a native of Cronkley in the Parish of Romaldkirk. Mother : Betty Watson.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12342-116114-58?cc=1309819&wc=9K5S-K6D:13618101,29783101,29783102

There is however a baptism of an Elizabeth Anderson in 1802 daughter of William and Sally. But as your lady married as Betty, I think the other maybe the correct one.

Hey Claire,
You're a star. The extra info you posted fills some gaps very nicely.
As I have quite some info re William and Hannah who came to Australia, I would be very interested to find out if Isabella, possible twin of William survived, or married and had a family? I found no such records on Ancestry.com
Cheers,
Mixo
