Hi ..im looking for information on peter maingay born december 1784 ..he was a captain in the royal navy and i think he was born on one of the chanel islands. Im looking him up for my family in tasmania who are also maingays and there ancestors emigrated from the chanel islands to tasmania in the 1800s..

There are also details of Probate granted 24th Nov 1869 on FindMyPast.

Late of Devonport in Devon, a Captain in the Royal Navy, he died 30th Sep 1869 at 15, Valletort Place,
Stoke Devonport. Letters of Administration were granted to his widow, Emeline Maingay at the same address.The effects were under £100

The National Archives also hold his Lieut. Passing Certificate that also includes details of his birth, this is in ADM 107/36 pages 161-163 and ADM 6/105 page 109, you would need to order these documents.

He appears to have made an unsuccesful claim for a Naval General Service Medal for service on HMS Audacious in Jan 1809. At this time Audacious was embarking the retreating army at Corunna.
