Tipperary - looking for who lived in Glebe House, Cooleeney, Moyne parish
« on: Tuesday 20 October 15 09:31 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am looking for the residents of the Glebe House in the townland of Cooleeney in the parish of Moyne in Tipperary North anywhere in the period between 1890 and 1927.

The building is still standing. I can see from Griffiths and earlier sources that the Rev. Samuel Ferguson was resident, but cannot see who was in there in the 1901/1911 censes or any other more recent years in my search period.

I wonder if they appear in Slater's in 1894?

My ancestor and mother both worked there, presumably for the Rev. as house servants.

Also would be interested if anyone comes across a photo of it.

I didn't want this posted to the Tipperary board, in case someone else is able to help me, not just people searching in Tipperary.

Thanks, Katharine.

The Valuation Revision Books go from the printed version of Griffith's Valuation (mid-1800s) until c1930 which cover the period you want to research. Will not list everyone in household but will be useful in tracing ownership/tenants. there was a post about them recently being made accessable for less money (I think) in Dublin.

You could also use the 1901 and 1911 census records as a basis for cheking Wills, etc.

Well if it's a Glebe house the additional Forms give descriptions of house... No. of rooms etc. which should eliminate many

e.g. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003331498/
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Strangely enough I can't find a Church of Ireland which would go with a Glebe House- so, are you sure that 'Glebe House' is actually in the townland of Cooleeney?

Really do think that this thread does need to be moved to TIPPERARY board.

1867 there is an article saying that it was for sale and was unfit for residence by the incumbant,

Then in 1869 there is reference to the 'new' Glebe House !

HUM

Am I looking at the right house ?

The Rev Armstrong had it at one point and called it Kilmore Glebe House

Does that sound like the same place that you are referring to ?

Glebe House and Cooleeney get zero matches where I am looking but I'm not great with Tipperary.
