Moore Cornwall marriage
« on: Wednesday 21 October 15 09:30 BST (UK) »
Hi
this is a long shot but can anyone assist me with a look up for a marriage 1818-1821 for a James MOORE and Mary ........... they had a child in 1827 Catherine Osborn MOORE baptised Truro, St. Mary Cornwall. Catherine must have died before 1834. They had other children Joshua and William born abt 1820 and 1823 unknown where. James was a carpenter and they moved to Australia in 1834 on board the ship Vestal
any assistance would be most appreciated

Oops wrong info

How certain are you he was from Cornwall? The Vestal left Liverpool in 1834 bound for Tasmania. I would have thought Plymouth would have been closest port of departure

The only clue I have is that Catherine was baptised Cornwall as I said I don't know where the other children were born . I believe James was born Bristol 1784 and they had another child Jane Cater MOORE 1826 at Bristol. Robert Osborn Moore was born on board the Vestal to James and Mary , James died at sea,
Jane is my 2nd great grand mother

It looks as if you have ( rightly or wrongly) linked Osborn to both Catherine and Robert and assumed they are brother and sister. ( not saying it is wrong)

Have you looked for a Mary Osborn? As you will know middle names can be an indicator to Maternal Surnames :)

I cant find any marriage on Cornwall OPC but the good folk on this board may have other info. It may well be a marriage in Somerset or Bristol ( not sure of the Zoning Regs for the area at the time)
