As Ady says seven digit army numbers were introduced c1921. These replaced earlier regimental numbers. Anyone in the army was renumbered. They were issued in blocks depending upon the first regiment but did not change after any transfers.

Details on medals reflected rank, number and regiment on a date specified when the medal was authorised. So the BWM and Victory medal were as of 11 November 1918. Or date of death or discharge if sooner.

Hubert would only be eligible for the vote on his 21st birthday. Each roll should have a commencement date and anyone becoming 'of age' during the year should have the date of their 21st birthday next to their name.  Was there a roll for 1920?

Further to my earlier post on those earlier numbers I have asked an expert who says..

124661 is not a Notts&Derbyshire (Sherwood Forrester) number. The Territorial Force renumbering started at 200001. So my theory about it being 1916/17 was incorrect.

He suggested that 124661 looks like a Labour Corps number.

22521 will be his Notts&Derby number from 1915.

There is no simple way of working out when this number was issued other than cross checking with other similar numbers on medal cards and service papers and finding a pattern of dates. All you can tell is that it is not a Territorial Force [TF) number, so probably 'new army'.
