Still looking for help with finding mygrt granfather's mother
« on: Thursday 22 October 15 01:50 BST (UK) »
still need to find out which of the staff were working at the house in colinton known to my family as Clermiston house and correlate this list with any lists held in any work/poorhouses around Edinburghs, districts; please help, I think that at the very least my grt grandfathers' mother deserves a place on my families tree, if nothing else but to be noted as his birth mother, and to unravel the story about him being taken in by those that became his family. e.g. margaret anne laing and William laidlaw a cab driver in colinton.

Hi, could you give a name and some idea of dates of the person you seek as the post is rather vague. Kim

Hi Marcie, The Village of Colinton is situated to the South West of what is now greater Edinburgh, whereas Clerwood House is to the North west about 6 miles apart as the crow fly s. However the Poor House at Greenbank [listed as 144 Comiston Road] could also be entered from  Colinton Road along a public footpath that still exists and runs through the middle of Firrhill High School.
