Molly Parker ne Peters c 1875 and Journalist Henry Parker
« on: Friday 23 October 15 07:33 BST (UK) »
Please can you help me resolve a puzzle.
I have a  1903 birth certificate for Guy Patten Parker born at a Teddington address to Henry Parker a journalist and Molly ne Peters.  I can see Molly as Mollie Parker in the 1901 Census at the same address but without Henry present and as a widow in the 1911 census visiting with three of her five children at Kingston on Thames.
Who was Molly Peters and who was Henry Parker, when was there a marriage?.
So far I have been totally without clues
Norman E

Hello
Looking for Molly Peters seems to suggest that she is the daughter of William Peters and Elizabeth Priscilla Kearley
1881 Sunbury Middlesex Haliford Road
William Peters 39 brickburner Kingston
Elizabeth 42 Brentford
William 16 labourer Haliford
Annie 14 Isleworth
James 11 Shepperton
MARY  ANN 9 Shepperton
Bertha 6 Haliford
Joseph 3
Thomas 3mths

1891 she 's a servant working at Thomas St Hampton

There's no sign of her marriage or a Henry Parker.
I'd be looking at the middle name of Patten.

When son Cyril signs up for the Tank core in 1918 his and his mother's address is Fairview London Road Hackbridge Surrey.

I'd be looking at the middle name of Patten.

I couldn't find one either  ??? their marriage year should be around 1896

Mollie/Molly PARKER from censuses had five children, the four boys middle name PATTEN

Violet Parker 1898
Henry Patten Parker Mar 1899 Islington
Cyril Patten Parker Sep 1900 Kingston
Bernard Patten Parker Sep 1901 Kingston
Guy Patten Parker Mar 1903 Kingston

Bernard Patten Parker  married age 29 (31/1/1931) , 27 Vale Road Sutton his father named as
Henry PATTEN Parker occ Journalist (does not say deceased)

so it would seem the boys were all given their father's middle name

Transferred from other post so that all the information is together  ;)

Ancestry is suggesting that Molly is Mary Peters born Shepperton, daughter of William & Elizabeth.

Halford mentioned as her place of birth in 1901 could be Halliford which is part of Shepperton. The place given later with an r added into the middle is next to Halliford though the county given is wrong.

1881

I think this may be worth investigating further  :-\  Molly/ie is a common pet name for Mary

Thank you for the latest replies.
I'm sure Henry Parker Snr. Had died before the 1911 census. In the 1911 census Molly was a widow and Henry and Cyril were in The Boys Refuge at Twickenham.
There is a 1907 death of Henry Parker registered at Kingston. The death age of 77 seems to rul him out.
The search goe's on!!
Again Thank You all

Since no marriage, be cautious about presuming she was indeed a widow by 1911.
It may have been an on-going common-law relationship, which broke down sometime after 1903. In these cases it's extremely common for a woman to represent herself as a widow (more respectable!)

Have you had any luck looking at electoral rolls for any addresses you have for the family?
Which of the birth certificates do you have so far? Is he plain "Henry Parker" or "Henry Patten" on these?
Records for the boys in the home in Twickenham may mention something about the family situation.

May be a red herring, but can anybody spot who "John Paton Parker" b. 1892 Uxbridge belongs to and where he ended up?
