hi milliepede,
thanks for your help on robert harbottle.
i have gone over the family names, but
looks more like its not the same robert.

i have read bits from afew papers about
what happened and the men who was
jailed, robert and two others got eight
years. they got out early in the end.

i dont think there was a lot told of the
trail at that time.  different  now.

will leave it open, if anyone wants to add.

                    william.

Hi William,
There is an article about Robert in the Nottingham Evening Post dated Friday 27 December 1929.  The article relates how his sweetheart, a Miss Ward from Dudley Village in Northumberland, has long awaited him.  There is also the information that he has sustained a dislocated knee from playing rugby and he had an eye injury and Robert worried about this affecting his ability to find work.

A Robert Harbottle married an Alice M Ward in 1930 in the Tynemouth Registration District.  Could this be the Robert you are researching?   I have checked the North Tyneside marriage records listed on the website 'Margaret Hall Genealogy'.  However, it seems that the North Tyneside office do not hold his marriage register record.  Perhaps Newcastle or Morpeth may hold this.

I hope this is of some help. :)

Hi, I know this is kind of an old post but I've just come across it now.
Robert Harbottle was my grandfather's uncle. Robert was the son of James and Margaret.
I don't know much about him either but my grandparents used to have a huge bible filled with family stuff that included letters that Robert had sent from his time in prison back to his family.

Hi everyone,
Glad to hear from you all, nice to see a family member.
The story was sad to read, I was moved when he returned
home on a cold Christmas Eve all them years ago.

Hello Harbottle23 hope this starts your search into Robert’s live.
                    Best regards to everyone,
                                                            Billy.
