Could be a cross on a small church or chapel

Fawley is a bit like it but a bit more ornate just under the eaves

Significant object here is the tower in the background. Could be a GWR tunnel vent. Done a bit of a Google image search for same but not come up with anything.

Guestimate is early 1930's. Does look like 2 photo's joined together.   
Griffiths Llandogo, Mitcheltroy, Mon. and Whitchurch Here (Also Edwards),  18th C., Griffiths FoD 19th Century.

I suppose two negatives could be put together to make a composite print. If they did that, it might indicate that the original background wasn't very attractive or that the tower had some significance.

OH thinks it could be a canal lock & the building a pumping station. I googled 'canal pumping station' & found several images of similar buildings.

King, Richardson, Hathaway, Sweeney, Young - Chelsea, London

Wow, thanks all for your help and suggestions.. I hadn't noticed the difference between the foreground and background focus until you pointed it out... Very interesting.... I think unfortunately this lovely lady shall remain nameless.. I like to think she could possibly be one of my Grand Aunts. If only they had written on the back of the photograph!
