Request look-up please. 1901 Census

Searching for Thomas Hopkin b. Barry  Parish of St. Nicholas. Married Maria ?

According to Welsh Newspapers on line Thomas of Gileston House, Penmark formerly of Bassett Arms in his Will left £6,671.00. Thomas died age 78yrs - October 1914.

How as a Labourer did he amass this amount and what would be the equivalent today.
Help also appreciated for date of marriage and maiden name of Maria.
Many thanks, Syljun

Here is the Probate Index entry, so it appears the newspaper was not entirely accurate (Death 1913, not 1914, wife Mary as per census, not Maria etc)

Why did you think he was a labourer?  Or has it turned out the death and Will and not for the person you were following after all?

Thomas Hopkin consistently gives his p,o.b on census as St Athan (1891/1901

on these census he never gives his occ as "labourer"
1891 he is at the Red Cow and occupation is "Publican & Blacksmith" 2 of his sons were Blacksmith's assistants

1901 He is at the Bassett Hotel Holten Rd and is a licenced victualler with several of his children and granddaughter assisting in the business

The Bassett Hotel was in Barry Docks

It is quite possible he made money at the hotel and maybe some from his Blacksmith business

on all census his wife is Mary -not maria

are you certain you are following the correct Thomas Hopkin??

Could you post any information where he is b. Barry occ a labourer with wife Maria ?

Many thanks for all replies. Seems I have mixed the families. Will have to check out Thomas the Publican.
