Cathedral of assumption carlow marriages pre 1833?
« on: Thursday 29 October 15 09:29 GMT (UK) »
I have a marriage from rootsireland of a couple that married in Oct 1826.  The record states Parish/District: Parish / District: Cathedral Of The Assumption Co. Carlow.  But the Cathedral apparently did not begin to be built to 1826.

Does anyone know what church the couple would have married in?
Wife was from Rathoe (Carlow), Husband from Baltinglass (Wicklow) but both were living in Dublin.  They appear to have married in Carlow town?

Thanks aghadowy, that info is perfect.  thanks also hallmark, I had found the entry in the nli microfilms but still didn't understand how they married in a cathedral that was not yet built, per the rootsireland transcript.

I've seen this before where churches were being rebuilt, Ceremonies took place locally in the interim..and were registered to the church. Possibly old church was knocked and they married in the 'temporary' church??
