To try to eliminate (although it may not work),
what was his most consistent yr of birth from census records or failing that...
his average yr of birth?

It seems to be 1808/9. I did order the death cert for 1808 birth i think and it wasnt a match. I cant find it now, which isnt helpful.

Hannah appears to have died in 1884, but i have been unable to find her in the 1881 census

Looks as though you will have to go through them one by one.

I've had to do that a few times & yes it's costly but many people on here have the same problem especially with common names or like myself surname variants.

You need to find the lost one 1st though  ;D

Have you tried a search for her under her maiden name?

Sometimes women revert back to their maiden names....worth a try.
