FALLOW research proving fallow!
« on: Friday 30 October 15 08:26 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find the marriage of HERMAN FALLOWS (1856-1911) to Emma Elizabeth.

!891 census shows she is from Islington and all the children are born there so I've been looking for a marriage in London (rather than Suffolk where Herman is from). 1911 census states she has been married 34 years = 1877 date.

Herman also used William as a forename (on baptism of children). Have also looked at variations of surname - Fellows/Fallowes/Sallows etc but n/t. (don't think the 1877 marriage of William Henry Fellowes to Emma Pursglove is the right one)

Any help identifying Emma's maiden name would be much appreciated before I spend money buying birth certs.
Thanks Rose H

It's entirely possible that they didn't marry at all!

1911 census states she has been married 34 years = 1877 date.

Not so! ;D
The 1911 census asks for the number of COMPLETE years married.
So stating a marriage of 34 years = 1876 date! ;)

I agree it's entirely possible they never married.

We all tend to "assume" people were married especially if census entries indicate they were but it's certainly not always the case  :)

Other linked trees on A* database don't have any more details for her either. If there is no trace of a marriage I'll have to order one of the children's b/certs to find out a maiden name. Thanks Rose H
