You haven't mentioned what religion they might have been. Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages in Ireland started in 1845 (most extracted in Irish marriage database on www.familysearch.org) but registration of Catholic ones didn't start until 1864.

Ah, sorry, I'd forgotten that. They were Catholic and so civil registration would be too late for them.

Good and bad news then.

Irish Catholic Parish Registers now online but dates vary according to parish and not all existing registers were microfilmed/are online. The bad news is that you need to search by parish then scan through register.

I've had that problem for other Dillons already, I'll have a look though. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for looking, I'll have to find another way to try and work out if Robert Dillon is linked to "my" Dillons.

Hi Dillcom,

Very interesting to hear from you, my Dillons lived in Manchester from the 1820s/30s but prior to that lived in Ireland, probably the Mayo/Galway area although I'm not 100% certain of that.

Were your Dillons in Manchester?

Hi deer 243 my dillons didn't live in Manchester as far as I'm aware. They came from either France or australia and bought farms in Donegal Ireland
