Look up request for a marriage
« on: Saturday 31 October 15 11:21 GMT (UK) »
I've been trying to find a marriage record for Robert Dillon and his Wife Sarah in Manchester where they were living in the mid 1800s but with no luck. Given that they came from Ireland it seems possible that they married before coming over to England. Would any one be willing to have a look on RootsIreland for me? Robert and Sarah's first child (that I know of) was born in 1848 in England.

Have you tried familysearch?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I don't think so. Robert and Sarah were both born in Ireland and they first appear in the census in 1851 in Manchester so it looks like they went straight from Ireland to Manchester. Also as their first child was born in 1848 I would have expected the marriage to be closer to this date.

Thanks for looking though!

Do you have the birth certificate or baptism details of the child born in 1848 - this should show Sarah's maiden name to help in search for, or proving true, a marriage correct if found

I'm afraid not. I suspect that Robert and Sarah Dillon are related in some way to my Dillon's but the evidence is quite thin at the moment so I had been holding off buying any certificates but it looks like that might be the easiest way to prove or disprove a connection.
