Getting a bit fed up with all the guesswork and false information so I decided to look up the actual certificate with my remaining 5 credits to see what is written. IHFH certainly have some explaining to do  :-\

The townland is writen as Coolcoscran [Coolcoscreagh] not Coolnaserran (which would have indicated Coolnasillagh). However, that does not seem to be where the family lived. The transcript doesn't seem to list the father's residence being Ashlenaduff [Ashlamaduff]- in these cases it's a case of the child being born somewhere other than home so perhaps Elizabeth (O'Kane) Mullan went to have the baby at her mother's house or something. The  father Jeremiah Mullan, a farmer, registered the birth 27 Feb. with the Garvagh registrar S. McIlroy [Dr. Solomon McIlory].

Thanks for that aghadowey...above and beyond the call of duty! The family home was at Ashlamaduff(Eslin). Griffiths has a few O'Kanes listed...will do a bit of searching in the valuation books to see if I can figure out if Elizabeth was related to any of them.

Agadhowey,

many thanks for identifying "Coolcoscran" - the "Coolcoskeran" in the Registers?

Great find  :)

Formal should be Formil. This map shows the townlands of Formil and Coolcoscreaghan in relation to Ashlamaduff-

Thanks hanes teulu. Yes, these are my great grandparents. Family legend has it that there were 7 "Dunany" O'Kane daughters. So far I have found Mary,Catherine,Margaret,Ellen,Elizabeth and, possibly Ann.
