Births and Marriages on Bardsey Island
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 13:59 GMT (UK) »
My 3*G.Grandparents Hugh Jones and Jane have a link with Bardsey Island in the early 1800's. Census records indicate that Jane was born Bardsey about 1791 and Hugh born Cerrigceinwen, Anglesey about 1788. By 1836 the family were at Llanfair yn Neubwll , Anglesey where daughters Catherine and Mary were born (1836 and 1838). There is reason to believe that they had several earlier children on Bardsey including a Margaret born 1831.
My quest is to find a marriage for Hugh and Jane on this tiny Island in the region 1810 to 1816, and possible children. Were there records kept on Bardsey - or possibly at nearby Aberdaron on the mainland ?

Hi Owen

Check out Keith Parry's fantastic web site Yffor.com. Under Aberdaron 1813-1837 the first record is their marriage on 29/1/1813. Also there is a baptism record of a daughter Mary in 24/3/1816.

Thank you, what a brilliant web site.
The marriage listed 29 Jan 1813 makes complete sense, slight concern being that both Hugh and Jane are recorded as from the parish of Bardsey. Does "parish" indicate place of birth or abode ??
Remembering that Hugh was born in Anglesey.

I have seen both used. In this case I am guessing that Hugh lived on Bardsey a few years before marrying.

Thanks again Glyn
I will trawl through this web site in search of children born to this couple between 1813 and 1836 as I have some names in mind which could help prove the point.
