Scotland death lookup
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 14:05 GMT (UK) »
Im looking to find out what happened (1911 census and death/burial) for Janet Helen Archibald. The last record for her I have found is the 1901 census at 20 Kew Gardens Govan,Lanarkshire,Scotland where she is given as born 1850 at Lanarkshire, a married woman (her husband was Edmund Douglas Archibald (1851-1913) but he was not with the family and is found on his own in London in the 1901 census and also the 1911 census but he described himself as married).  Living with Janet in 1901 was her children Plyllis age 20, Robert, age 19 and Elizabeth age 10. Janet and four of her children were also living in Scotland in the 1891 census at 9 Hillside Gardens Gardner Street Govan Lanarkshire. I could not find her husband in the 1891 census.

It appears that husband and wife were living apart from 1891 to 1911. Were they divorced? When and where did Janet die and where/when was she buried?

If she was in Scotland in 1911 and died there you will need to search on Scotland's People website (pay per view for everyone- or at a few locations in Scotland, I think).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

There are newspaper reports of court proceedings in October and November 1898 when Edmund was seeking access to his children. It seems that they separated after their return to England in 1878 and a deed of separation had been drawn up in 1889. She alleged that he was a man of dissolute habits and had lived with a woman named Fribery in India and Australia.
