Pubs bombed during WWII - Homerton High Street
« on: Sunday 01 November 15 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find out if the 'Adam & Eve' ph at 155 Homerton High Street E9 is the original ph that sustained bombed damage and casualties during WWII

My late gran told me of the time when she worked at Hackney Hospital and when she and her friends got dolled up and went out to go and have a drink at the Adam & Eve. Cos it was so busy and overcrowded they went somewhere else. The follow day when she went back into work she'd been told how close to death she come. The pub had been hit and subsequently many people had lost their lives.

This map may help you find what you want:

It does look like the placement of the original PH to me.

The pub appears to have been bombed 15/10/1940.
If you search CWGC ( put date ,and then Homerton in the additional information) and Civillian deaths you will find some that sadly died in the pub.

Adverts in the newspapers for staff give address in 1936 as Adam & Eve, 155 High Street, Homerton, E 9.

The CWGC info posted by Cathy shows that 3 people died at the Adam & Eve, Ivy Bagel, Emily Corfield and Horace Miles.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission :)

There are some casualties at 155 Homerton High Street, maybe the same as the pub, perhaps some people wanted an address rather than a pub name?
