Thanks all

See page 49 on the same link this Robert Cox at fishlogan has his name replaced by John A Norris

link supplied by familyroutes
http://apps.proni.gov.uk/Val12B/RelatedVolume.aspx?6824

John Alexander Norris was my great great grandfather.

He was son of John Norris & Jane Cox

Robert Cox from Fish Loughan was related to Jane Cox my great great great grandmother it was her brother who was the father of Robert Cox from Fish Loughan. Only problem is I don't know the name of the father of Robert Cox from Fish Loughan

John Norris was born 5 June 1834, at County Cloyfin, Northern Ireland.

His mother Jane Cox could be born around c1810 I suppose?

I know a lot about John Alexander Norris but nothing before his parents. The Cox line remains a mystery. That is why I am trying to trace Robert Cox from Fish Loughan the only known relative.

Can't seem to find much at all, there are a few Robert Cox in the area but cannot prove any connections further back

thanks for the help everyone

John Norris was born 5 June 1834, at County Cloyfin, Northern Ireland.
This would be Cloyfin townland.

Do you have the Norris, Cox, etc. details from Dr. Mullin's book "Families of Ballyrashane"?

There is a marriage of Robert Cox to Mary Thompson registered in Coleraine in 1858.

That was the (presumed) 2nd marriage of Robert Cox of Bovagh. Newspaper announcement gives his age as 77 but marriage register as 78.

Hi I noted three marriages to a Robert Cox around the time another one was Rachel Craig. I think the Elzabeth Cox you found in 1901 census is very possibly the spouse?

Hi aghadowey I have not Dr. Mullin's book "Families of Ballyrashane" would be interested to see those details please. I don't think Mary T is the spouse of Robert from Fishl. Have a feeling it must be Elizabeth per 1901 census? Can we find her in earlier census at fishl?

Census previous to 1901 is 1831- unless you can find a pension claim.

Dr. Mullin's book published in 1969 but the material was gathered from the 'old' people in the vacinity, numerous trips to Registry of Deeds in Dublin, etc. The book was reprinted a few years ago I believe. Too much to type out but here are a few bits.

page 50: A document of 1862 mentions that John Alexander Norris of Cloyfin is in possession of a farm of land in the Loughan, lately possessed by Robert Cox. As this Norris family are known to have had a mill in the Loughan, it can be taken that this farm is likely to be the farm in Fish Loughan, occupied by Robert Cox, which is mentioned in the Griffith Valuation of 1859; this farm had a mill upon it.
page 51: The Tithe Book of 1832 shows three Norrises with farms three: John Norris, 30 acres, James Norris, 29 acres, and Peter Norris, 36 acres.
There are lots of Norris connections mentioned along with a Norris of Cloyfin Family Tree.
