Bob (the founder) was born in the 1880s, so we are probably on Bob IV by now!

Not to worry - found out from another source that Bob V helps around the shop these days (although he probably calls himself Robbie or something more modern,

Dear Bill Symons - and anyone else who remembers Hodgson Street
i dont suppose you have any photos of Ivy Cottages, or Hodgson Street? Ive tried the HCC sites for pics , but they never work or are under construction.
My great grandmas brother, my great great uncle Frank Brotherton, lived there at no 4 with his family according to the 1911 census with Ethel Thirsk who he married and her son Walter Thirsk, and his children Hilda and Frank Brotherton.
Frank was killed in WW1 East Yorks regiment and is buried in Flanders.
I know there is quite a gap to when you lived there but did you hear of any stories of people who had lived there before when you were a child?
thankyou if you can help, much appreciated
Elaine

I lived at 110 Hodgson Street when i was a kid. Our house was directly opposite from Spiveys fish shop and i could look into he shop from my upstairs bedroom window.

Little playgy we used to call the playground in the cemetery ( Big playgy was on Dansom (Danny) lane across the drain at the bottom of our street). There were two wooden gates on the playground, locked up each night by Mrs Smith who looked after the place, she also kept chickens.

I got caught smoking behind one of the gates and was taken home where my dad made me smoke one of his "Old Friend" roll ups.
