Matilda Jane Hill
« on: Thursday 05 November 15 19:31 GMT (UK) »
Matilda Jane Hill was a witness at the wedding of my gt gt grannie

Mary Jane Hill m Alfred Keightley Rudkin in Great Glenn in 1865
Witnesses Matilda (as above) and Thomas William Hill (Mary's brother)

The family:
William Hill and his wife Ann married in 1839 and had only 6 children that I can find: Thomas (1840-42), Ann Elizabeth (b 1843),  Mary Jane (1845), Thomas William (1847 - 1868), James Wright (b 1849) and Sophia (b 1851)

So who was Matilda?

I wondered if she had married Thomas William but I can't find a marriage. Thomas would have had to have been barely 17 when he married if this was the case. There is a marriage in Lutterworth for a Matilda Jane Hill to Thomas Buck in 1876 - could this be her?

Can anyone help? Thanks.

If so, she belongs to this family - can you connect them to yours?

hmm - I'd love to be able to but it's not leaping out at me.

William Hill b around 1804 in N Kilworth is clearly not likely to be brother to my William Hill b around 1817 in Church Langton (though baptism for my William never found)

<sigh> I hoped Matilda might help with my Hill brick wall --

I agree, not very likely as they are both William. Perhaps they were cousins? Or it might just be a coincidence that both the bride and witness are Hill - maybe she was just a friend.
