Marriage- William Harris
« on: Friday 06 November 15 14:42 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone find a marriage for William Harris to a Hannah  ?  about 1811/12

They baptised 6 children at St Helens Abingdon- the first I have is John 1812-William is a "chaise driver" for all the baptisms

I have the St Helens & Berks Marriage Index CDs but cannot find a marriage for them on those

William died in 1855 aged 68 giving a birth date c 1786 ish

I have not managed to find him on the 1841 or 1851 census' either :)

{there are 2 William Harris' baptising children at the same time-the other is a weaver}

Kim -

I suggest you use the Oxfordshire Search Services - Oxfordshire FHS will search their county-wide Oxfordshire & Berkshire marriage indexes - see Surname Search Services on the left at www.ofhs.org.uk

Thank you Wendy - I will if no one can help - I have been a member of OFHS for some years and transcribed some of  the Berkshire Marriage Index

Kim -

For lookups I encourage use of the OFHS look up service - where members of this board can help others well is if there's a puzzle to be solved.

Hi Kim

How are you?

Of course at the time of your search Abingdon was in Berkshire not Oxfordshire as I suspect you will be very well aware but others may not - hence my mentioning it.
I have not bothered with the Abingdon CD's as you say you have looked.

In the Oxfordshire FHS Marr Index between 1810 and 1820 there is only one William Harris marriage to a Hannah and that was at St Peter in the East, Oxford on 21 Oct 1811. So I have looked at that disc and :

The bride was Hannah Huckell
The groom and bride were b.o.t.p and he was a bach she a sp. He signed she used a X
The marriage was after banns and the witnesses were: George Harris, Eliz Arnold & Martha Fowler

The fact they were both otp is a bit of a shame but they could have been living in Oxford, working then moved to Abingdon after marriage?

Hope it may help?

Nigel

Hello Nigel :)

Thank you for your response - I have not found a baptism for a William  Harris which fits in Abingdon but there are so many Harris's !

There are quite a few HuckWells in the Abingdon area so it is a possiblity {no HuckElls}

I will have to do some more searching.

avg288

Thank you

The children were
John born 1812 -
Ann born 1814 died 1888  She married a George Harris in 1840  from my line of Milton Harris'{no children}
Rachel born 1815 died 1818
Daniel born 1818 died 1886 -does not appear to have married
Hannah born 1820 died 1838

There is a buriel at St Helens in Feb 1832 for a Hannah Harris age 51 and one for a William Harris in Sept 1855 age 68

I have Ann and Daniel on all the relevant census
