Hi. I would be grateful if anyone can give parentage/origins on Joseph Seeley, born 1825 in New Rd, Marylebone, married to Caroline Eliza Carter, known as Ellen. Children are Conrad, Adolph Unna, Rosalia, Malvina. I cannot find the family in 1851 or 1861 censuses. Family story is that Joseph may have spent time in Germany, which explains the names given to sons. He was a solicitor in Holborn and later Richmond where he died in 1913. Caroline was born abt 1832 in Willsbridge Gloucs, but I cannot find a birth or marriage record for either of them.

He appears to marry Elizabeth Mills in 1911 (Kingston Q4 2A 931) though they're living as man and wife in the census

What is the earliest record you have of the family?

I see that the couple's son Conrad Louis Seeley was baptised at St Luke, Chelsea on 19 Aug 1855 - abode King St.  Joseph's occupation: book keeper.

Adolph Unna Seeley was baptised at St Stephen, Westminster on 1 Nov 1857.

The earliest I have is the census of 1871, it's his parentage I am after, as I have plenty of info on the children, except Malvina, whom I lose after 1881.

The info on the children including birthdates and birthplaces is relevant though - both in identifying a timeline for the family (to identify a likely marriage date) and in tracing the missing censuses.

I see that Rosalia was born in Pimlico - registered St George Hanover Square Mar qtr 1860 so only a year or so old by the time of the 1861 census.  This may explain why you can't find them in 1861 (if they were still in the area) as the 1861 census for Pimlico does not survive.
